There have been stories beyond belief.
Rumored tales of champions, past and present.
But all those rumors took a back seat to the one that was brewed come Finals Week.
People have dreamed of it, some for more then 10, maybe even 20 years. But on August 9th, 2008, in Bloomington Indiana on a warm summer night, those dreams came true with a few simple words: Blue Devils.
The crowd was tense after they finished appluading for the 3rd place Cavaliers. People began to yell out "Phantom!!" "Blue Devils!!!', stating who they wanted to take home the gold. Then the announcerbegan his 2nd place call.
"In second place, recieving the silver medal....with a score of 98.1....."
At this point, it was dead silent. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife. Until finally...
"That's Ninety-eight point one....."
Yeah, yeah, we get the idea. Until finally.....
"Blue Devils."
And with those two words, the announcer made almost every single person in that stadium scream in joy. The Phantom DM stood up, accepted his awards, and after the rest of the awards were announced, the announcer bid farewell, the corps broke out of character, and tears flowed.
Tears of joy, of winning a title at last, tears of sadness, of losing what they thought they had, and most of all, tears of bitter sweetness, of the fact that the season ended tonight, and the good times were done until 09'.
Congratulations to Phantom Regiment on winning their first title ever!! (With the exception of the tie a whiles back)
Congrats to BD on a fight well fought. To the Scouts and Stars making it back to Finals, to the Crown, for their highest Finals placing in the history of the corps, and most importantly, to all corps for an awesome season of drama and entertainment!
There's a pic of the Phantom Regiment DM lying on the grass, still in character as a dead emperor as scores were being announced, and awards were being given. :)
